Ingredients
14 oz. smoked sausage, sliced about ½” thick
1 can Frank’s Bavarian Style Kraut
Olive oil (or cooking oil of choice)
5-7 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 tsp. seasoning salt, or to taste
2 tsp. black pepper, or to taste
Instructions
- Place the smoked sausage and Bavarian style kraut in a small or medium slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 1 ½ to 2 hours, or until the sausage and kraut are hot.
- Meanwhile, add about ¼” of oil to a cast iron skillet with lid (or non-stick skillet if you don’t have a cast iron) and heat over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add the sliced potatoes and season with the seasoning salt and black pepper. Cook, stirring often, until the potatoes are almost tender, about 30 to 45 minutes. If the skillet becomes dry, you can add a splash more of oil or a tablespoon or two of water and continue cooking.
- When the potatoes are almost tender, mix in the sliced onion and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the onion and potatoes are soft. When the sausage and kraut are hot, scoop the mixture out of the slow cooker and place on top of the potatoes and onions. Cover and cook for another 10 minutes.
- Serve immediately
